Modifications

84 track seeking

Unmodified drives will not be able to seek 84 tracks. A major modification is required to enable this.

The modification can be performed by following these steps:

  1. Unscrew the springs that hold the head assembly guild rod on the stepper motor side.
  2. Pull out the guide rod about half way.
  3. Use a rotary tool to grind down the head assembly end stop as pictured.
  4. Clean the drive of any metal dust.
  5. Push the guide rod back into its resting position.
  6. Screw down the springs that hold the guild rod in place.
